Tele Columbus continues DOCSIS 3.1 rollout
Gigabit internet for another 75,000 households in three German states
- Potsdam, Freiberg, Halberstadt and Quedlinburg with internet speeds up to 1,000 Mbit/s
- 700,000 households in total now enjoy gigabit bandwidths
- Network opening makes it possible to sign up for products from other providers
Berlin, 13 April 2022. Tele Columbus AG, a leading fibre network operator, is continuing its gigabit expansion campaign. As part of the nationwide drive to upgrade networks to the DOCSIS 3.1 telecommunications standard, 75,000 households in Potsdam, Freiberg, Halberstadt and Quedlinburg will receive high-speed internet service with gigabit bandwidths of up to 1,000 Mbit/s.
The gigabit age has arrived – with tangible benefits for an ever-growing number of PŸUR customers in the Tele Columbus Group’s network. By upgrading its network, Tele Columbus plans to offer a new dimension of speed to most of the roughly 2.4 million households it provides with internet service. A number of additional cities and communities across Germany will be able to start enjoying gigabit internet over the course of 2022.
To date, PYÜR had offered internet speeds of up to 400 Mbit/s in its cable networks. PYÜR launched its first gigabit offer for some 500,000 households in Berlin in August 2019. Thanks to the nationwide DOCSIS 3.1 rollout, the latest increase in speed is already benefiting 200,000 additional households – and growing.
What is more, a PŸUR connection gives customers the option of choosing from different product providers. The non-discriminatory opening of the Tele Columbus Group’s networks is an essential part of its Fiber Champion Strategy and provides true added value for the housing industry and all tenants. Products from Telefónica Deutschland (o2) have already been available through the Tele Columbus network since July 2021.
