GESOBAU and Tele Columbus expand partnership and switch to fibre optics
- Another 25,000 GESOBAU households to be supplied
- Modernisation work makes fibre to the home possible
- Tele Columbus strengthens its position as leading fibre-optic provider in Berlin
Berlin, 19 January 2023. GESOBAU AG and Tele Columbus AG are expanding their successful partnership. As part of a public tender procedure for the provision of triple play services, Tele Columbus will start gradually supplying around 25,000 additional households with TV, internet and telephony through its PŸUR brand in November 2023. The agreement includes supplying these homes with fibre to the home (FTTH). This enables Tele Columbus to continue its fibre-optic expansion in Berlin and underscore its position as a leading provider of this infrastructure in the capital.
On 1 November 2023, Tele Columbus will start supplying the GESOBAU properties in the Märkisches Viertel district and Schillerhöhe district with high-speed internet up to 1,000 Mbit/s, high-definition television and telephony through its PŸUR brand. This will be followed by a gradual upgrade of these households with fibre to the home (FTTH).
All of these apartments will soon be able to benefit from fibre optics. Tele Columbus will be completely restructuring and upgrading the distribution networks, replacing existing antenna and multimedia outlets and modifying and modernising distribution systems in basements to handle fibre-to-the-home connections. What’s more, all of GESOBAU’s new building projects will be linked up to the Tele Columbus network by way of future-proof fibre-to-the-home architectures.
The agreement between GESOBAU and Tele Columbus features an open access model, which will allow other providers of telecommunications services to lease the fibre-optic networks. Once the upgrades are complete, residents will be able to utilise services from other providers – such as o2 at the moment and 1&1 in the future – without the necessity for any building work in stairwells or apartments.
“This expansion of our successful partnership with GESOBAU strengthens our position in Berlin as a leading fibre-optic provider and the first point of contact for the housing industry when it comes to growing state-of-the-art fibre-optic infrastructure,” says Daniel Ritz, Chief Executive Officer of Tele Columbus AG.
“We are very enthusiastic about continuing our partnership with GESOBAU and the work ahead,” adds Rüdiger Schmidt, Chief Sales Officer Housing Industry & Infrastructure at Tele Columbus. “Our agreement ensures that every resident in every apartment has access to high-performance TV and internet infrastructure. The decision to systematically expand our fibre-optic network will pay off for everyone involved.”
Christian Wilkens, member of the management board of GESOBAU AG: “a future-proof supply of digital services is an increasingly important criterion for attractive housing. With the FTTH upgrade in our premises, we are facilitating the digital communication and support digital living. Thereby we are creating a real value-add for our tenants.”
