Gigabit internet for Osterfelder Wohnungsgenossenschaft eG
Expansion of fibre broadband network in Oberhausen-Osterfeld
Berlin, 8 September 2022. Tele Columbus AG, one of Germany’s leading fibre network operators, is providing around 2,700 homes in the housing cooperative GE-WO Osterfelder Wohnungsgenossenschaft eG with high-speed internet via fibre-optic connections. Work has now begun on installing new six-kilometre-long fibre-optic lines that will bring data capacity of at least 400 Mbit/s to more than 500 households in Oberhausen’s largest housing cooperative.
With its brand PŸUR, Tele Columbus is a long-time partner of GE-WO and supplies more than 4,000 homes with an extensive range of TV channels. A large proportion of the buildings – including those in Alsfeld, Klosterhardt, Heide, Sterkrade and Osterfeld – will now also benefit from high-speed internet and telephony via a fibre-optic network. This will ensure fast, reliable internet connections in the long term, even as usage continues to increase.
Work is now under way to expand the regional Duisburg network hub, lay the six-kilometre underground lines and roll out the fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) upgrades for the individual GE‑WO properties. No construction work is required within the individual apartments. Once the work is completed in the coming year, Tele Columbus will provide an attractive range of internet services from PŸUR that meets every need – from entry level to the high bandwidth required for home working and streaming services.
